Frankfort's Holiday Season Hinges on One Friday Night and the Saturday After It

November 5, 2026

"Celebrate 31 years of community spirit at Midnight Madness on Friday, December 11th from 6 PM to Midnight!" That's how the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce announces this year's edition. The promise is the same one it has made for three decades: holiday shopping, local businesses and a downtown that stays lit long after it usually closes.

Midnight Madness lands on Friday, December 11. The next day, Saturday, December 12, the Village holds Holiday on the Green at Breidert Green. Last year followed the same pattern. The Chamber's night ran Friday, December 12, 2025, and the Village's Home for the Holidays opened on Breidert Green the next afternoon. Frankfort's holiday season has a lighting ceremony, a Park District calendar and a run-up through November, but its peak comes down to about 24 hours: one evening built around shopkeepers and one day built around the Green.

Thirty-One Years of Shops Open Until Midnight

Midnight Madness is a Chamber of Commerce event, and its format reflects that. The draw is that participating member businesses stay open from 6 p.m. to midnight with special discounts, promotions and giveaways. In 2024, Patch reported that the 29th edition supported more than 30 local businesses, and the Chamber's participant list that year shows what a Frankfort shopping night looks like when every door is open:

  • Food and drink: Grounded Coffee Bar, Trail's Edge Brewing Company, Old Plank Pizza Company, La Michoacana de Frankfort, Kernel Sweetooth, Raffy's Candy Store, Short & Sweet- Tasty Treats
  • Gifts and home: Hammar's Mercantile, Family Hearth General Store, White Street Market, Redtail Market, This & That Gifts, The Candle Vault, 1N Décor, Heirloom, Whimsy, Moment in Time, Lil Surprises
  • Boutiques: Azul Boutique, Briosa Boutique, Lennox Rose Boutique, Parker James Boutique, Bridesmaids Social Boutique, Rare Apparel 28, The Dressing Room, Evilena's Red Dresser
  • Everything else: Amazing Fantasy Comics & Games, Down Home Guitars, Bentley's Pet Stuff, The Jolly Giraffe, Express Med Spa, Frankfort Arts Association

That's the 2024 lineup, and each year's roster depends on which members sign on. For the 30th edition in 2025, Patch's preview passed along the Chamber's promise of "special discounts and promotions" at participating stores, along with seasonal treats and entertainment. For 2026, the Chamber lists Brookhaven Market as the night's hot chocolate sponsor.

A six-hour window running until midnight sets this apart from almost everything else on the December calendar. Most of the season's family events take place in daylight or early evening. Midnight Madness is the one event on this calendar that keeps downtown Frankfort open until midnight.

The Next Morning, the Green Takes Over

Holiday on the Green is the Village's half of the weekend, and it happens in a different place for a different reason. The Village lists it for December 12, 2026, at Breidert Green, the open lawn at the center of downtown.

The 2025 version gives a sense of what the Village builds on that lawn. Home for the Holidays ran free from noon to 5 p.m. on December 13 and 14, 2025. Patch reported that the Saturday program included trackless train rides, real reindeer, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a lantern parade, horse and carriage rides, cookies and hot cocoa.

One is a late night of storefront sales organized by the Chamber; the other is a free afternoon on the lawn, put on by the Village, with reindeer and rides. Because they fall on back-to-back days, the same few blocks of Kansas, White and Nebraska Streets host both a late-night shopping crowd and an afternoon of family activities, with only one overnight in between.

How the Weekend Fits Together

The Frankfort Park District adds one more evening event to the Friday. Here's how December 11 and 12 line up from what's posted now:

  1. Friday, December 11, 6 p.m. to midnight: Midnight Madness at participating Chamber-member businesses downtown.
  2. Friday, December 11, 6 to 9 p.m.: Puzzle Mania, Holiday Edition, at Founders Community Center, 140 Oak Street. It's a Frankfort Park District program running during the first three hours of Midnight Madness.
  3. Saturday, December 12: Holiday on the Green at Breidert Green.

Oak Street is one of the downtown streets the Frankfort Area Historical Society has pointed holiday visitors to, along with Kansas, Elwood, Old Frankfort Way, Ash, Nebraska and White. That puts the Park District's Friday puzzle night inside the same walkable grid as the Chamber's shopping night.

Friday evenings downtown have been part of Frankfort's December for a while. Last year, the week before Midnight Madness, the Historical Society hosted its Candlelight House Walk on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets were $35, select homes were decorated for the holidays, and stops included a Frankfort Arts Association open house at Studio C, a holiday cocktail and "Winter Wonderland" at CD & ME, and homemade cookies with Wassail at the museum.

The Weeks Leading Up to It

Before the big weekend, the Frankfort Park District runs a calendar of smaller events, most of them at Founders Community Center. The Village adds its own opener with the Lighting of the Green on Thursday, December 3, 2026.

Date Event Where Detail
Starting Nov. 17 Santa mailbox Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St. For Park District residents

Thurs., Dec. 3 Lighting of the Green Village event The season's opener
Sat., Dec. 5, 11 to 11:45 a.m. or noon to 12:45 p.m. Santa Photos & Workshop Founders Community Center Two sessions

Fri., Dec. 11, 6 to 9 p.m. Puzzle Mania, Holiday Edition Founders Community Center Same night as Midnight Madness
Sat., Dec. 19 Snowflakes & Sweets Stroll Departs Founders Community Center Day trip to Galena

Two things stand out in the table. First, the season builds toward December 11 and 12. The Santa mailbox, bingo and photo sessions fill the earlier weeks, and the lighting on December 3 starts the downtown portion. Second, the event right after the big weekend leaves town. The Snowflakes & Sweets Stroll on December 19 is a Park District day trip to Galena, so the following Saturday's outing takes place in another town's downtown.

A New Name in the Trolley Barn

Some of the shopping-night map has changed since the 2024 list was published. The Trolley Barn at 11 S. White St., on the east side of White Street near Nebraska Street, is the address for Frankfort's Avocado Theory. Owner Krunal Patel told What Now Chicago in August that it would be his fifth restaurant, after Tinley Park, Naperville, Lincolnshire and Wheaton.

Patel told the outlet he chose Frankfort after taking part in the village's farmers markets. "I thought, man, this is such a great community," he said. The menu centers on a "Power Morning" lineup of breakfast sandwiches, pancakes and wraps, along with avocado toasts in flavors like tomato basil and smoked salmon dill, and the menus change with the seasons.

The building already has neighbors. What Now notes that Cultivate Community Table and This & That Gifts are also in the Trolley Barn, and This & That Gifts was on the Chamber's 2024 Midnight Madness list. Patel told What Now that opening updates would go on the Avocado Theory Facebook page.

For the latest on the Chamber's night, including the sponsor list and a reminder sign-up, the Chamber's community events page has the 2026 listing. The Village posts its Lighting of the Green and Holiday on the Green pages at frankfortil.org.
