Orland Park Holiday Lights 2026: Your Guide to the Season

October 22, 2026

The lower level of the J.C. Penney parking lot at Orland Square Mall is turning into a light show. World of Illumination filed a special event permit with the Village of Orland Park for a holiday drive-through show in that lot. The permit lists setup starting October 14 and teardown finishing January 31, 2027. The show, called "Cosmic Sleighride Christmas," opens Friday, November 13.

That's 15 days before the Village lights the tree on Village Green, but the two displays close almost together. The mall show ends January 3. The Community Tree Trim trees on the Village lawn stay up one day longer, through Monday, January 4, 2027. For the first two weeks of the 2026 season, Orland Park's holiday lights are only in a mall parking lot and you need a ticket. After November 28 you can pick a free walk on Ravinia Avenue or a paid drive off LaGrange Road on almost any night until the new year.

What the Permit Shows About the Mall Lot

The Village's special event file for the show is surprisingly modest. World of Illumination's application estimates an average of 450 vehicles a day, with a park maximum of 1,400 vehicles a day. It lists no road, sidewalk or right-of-way closures. No food is served, there are no food trucks, no alcohol, no live entertainment and no generators. The structures are decorative displays and scenery mounted on truss and metal fixtures, with no stages. The Village's legislative record shows the permit item as passed, with final action on October 5, 2026.

Put together, this is a show that happens entirely inside a private lot at 288 Orland Square Dr. LaGrange Road and 151st Street stay open, and the show adds no food or music to the lot. Because nothing is sold on site, dinner happens somewhere else on the corridor, before or after your time slot. That's what the last section of this post is for.

Inside the Car

The show's website describes how it works. You drive in, follow the World of Illumination signs to the entrance, and tune your radio to the synchronized holiday music when staff point you to it. You drive the route at your own pace. The full route takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic, and the company says weeknights tend to move faster than weekends. Pets can come along as long as they stay inside the vehicle.

Patch Orland Park quoted the company's own pitch for the show:

"Millions of lights, music, and magic, all from the comfort of your own car."

This year's theme is space travel: an asteroid belt tunnel, a swirling vortex, the "Elf HQ towers of Strato City" and hoverboarding astro elves, ending in Santa City. The company tours five or more cities each season and says it never repeats a show.

Tickets are sold online only and priced per car, so the cost doesn't change with how many people are inside. Prices start at $39.99 and vary by date, and the show's Orland Park page says buying early gets the best rate. When Patch reported on October 14, sales hadn't opened yet, and the ticket page still read "Not availaible yet." Check the date picker before you plan a specific night.

Check it for closed nights too, because the two sources don't match. The company's FAQ says the show runs Tuesday through Sunday, with gates opening at 6 p.m. and last entry at 10 p.m. The Village permit application lists only three closed dates, all Mondays: November 16, 23 and 30. If a Monday in December is the only free night your family has, the ticket calendar is the place to find out whether the gates are open.

The Village Lawn Lights November 28

The Village's Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting & Festival is Saturday, November 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Village Green, 14700 S. Ravinia Ave. This year's parade is called Holiday Lights on Ravinia, and every unit must be at least 50% light elements. Floats, vehicles, walking groups and dance or performance groups all qualify. The evening runs in this order:

  1. 4 p.m. Parade units stage at 151st Street and Ravinia Avenue.
  2. 5 p.m. The parade heads north on Ravinia from 151st to 146th, a 0.4-mile route.
  3. About 45 to 60 minutes later, depending on the number of entries, the parade wraps up and the tree lighting and festival start right after.
  4. Through 8 p.m. Holiday games and crafts, live entertainment, the lighted display on the Village lawn, and Santa.

If your business, team or block wants to light up a float, parade entry is free. Entries are due Monday, November 2, and applicants hear back by November 6.

The longer-lasting piece is the 12th Annual Community Tree Trim. Families, friends and coworkers adopt a tree for $25, decorate it themselves, and it joins the lawn display from November 28 through January 4, 2027. The trees are about five feet tall with white lights, quantities are limited, and adoptions are first come, first served. The mall show is a route designed by a touring company. The Village lawn is decorated by whichever neighbors sign up first.

Dinner on LaGrange Road Before Your Time Slot

The mall lot doesn't serve food, so dinner depends on where along LaGrange you start.

North end, near 142nd Street. Weber Grill Restaurant opened this summer at 14210 La Grange Road, at the corner of 142nd Street. Southwest Regional Publishing reported 240 seats, a 48-seat patio, and an open kitchen where the charcoal grilling happens in full view. It's open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The light show opens its gates at 6 p.m., so an early dinner there gives you time to drive south to 151st for a slot later in the evening. Over on 143rd Street, RoccoVino's Italian Restaurant at 11255 W. 143rd St. is open daily starting at 11 a.m.

South end, near the mall. Fogo de Chão, which Patch reported opened in May 2025, is at 15407 S. LaGrange Rd., just past the mall's 151st Street corner. Seasons 52 is a bit farther south at 15610 S. La Grange Road and is still listed in the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce directory.

Morning events. For Turkey Trot or Veterans Day mornings, both breakfast places are on LaGrange. Egg Harbor Cafe opened at 14301 LaGrange Rd. in spring 2025, and First Watch at 15256 S. La Grange Road lists dine-in hours of 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Neither source lists Thanksgiving Day hours, so call ahead before the trot.
