What's Actually On In Crest Hill This August

Two things are happening in Crest Hill this month that don't usually happen in the same month, or the same decade. One is our own: a festival hitting its 26th year on Donmaur Drive. The other is national, and it happens to run straight through town. If you live here, August 2026 is the month where a shield on the roadside stops being background scenery.

The Weekend Everything Else Bends Around

Festa Italiana returns to the American Italian Cultural Society in Crest Hill on Friday, August 7, Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, 2026. The address is 1918 Donmaur Drive, and if you've lived here more than a summer you already know the parking rhythm. What's new to say is scale: the festival typically draws 4,000 to 5,000 people per day and 15,000 to 16,000 over the entire weekend. For a city our size, that's a meaningful share of the neighborhood cycling through one property in 72 hours.

Two details worth knowing if you're planning your Saturday:

• Cadillac Groove takes the stage Saturday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m. and plays until 11:00 p.m.
• The club's monthly spaghetti dinners run the second Thursday of every month from September through May, so Festa is the summer bookend before that indoor season starts up again.

The building itself is worth a second look this year. The Italian club underwent its most extensive remodeling project since it opened in 1988, with a new bar and dining room intended to give the club a modern look. Repurposed wine barrels were installed for the front of the bar to keep with Italian wine making traditions. If your last Festa memory is from a few years back, the interior you'll walk past on the way to the food line is not the interior you remember.

One more piece of context most flyers leave out. The annual Festa Italiana in August has been voted best festival or local event six years in a row. Twenty-six years running, six years of regional recognition, and the whole thing sits off Plainfield Road tucked in the front of the Crest Hill neighborhood at 1918 Donmaur Drive. Hidden in plain sight is the phrase.

The Shield You Drive Past Without Looking

Here is the part of August that only makes sense in 2026.

The world is preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of America's most iconic highway, and Illinois is leading with new attractions and major events honoring Route 66. Illinois has 301 miles of the highway, and the state has been rolling out programming all year. Crest Hill isn't a footnote in that plan.

Route 66 Shield Community Monuments were installed in Berwyn, Burr Ridge, Oak Brook, Countryside, Willowbrook, Darien, Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Lockport, Crest Hill, Joliet, Channahon, Gardner, Wilmington, Dwight, and Pontiac. That's the short list. Every one of those towns is on "The First Hundred Miles" corridor, and Crest Hill sits inside it. The city's own site puts it plainly: Route 66, 100 years in 2026.

What this means for a resident in August:

1. If you drive out to see the 24-foot Gigantar exterior sign at the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum, or the prison gates from the Blues Brothers movie at Old Joliet Prison, or the neon signs and murals at Joliet's Broadway Greenway park, you're doing a corridor tour that starts at your own front door.
2. The Illinois State Fair runs August 13 through 23, 2026 in Springfield, and the Route 66 Experience and neon exhibits take center stage during the state's premier summer event. It's a three-hour drive south, and the fair week overlaps with the tail of Festa weekend.
3. Souvenirs, if that's your thing: The Landing Pad sits just steps from the Gemini Giant in Wilmington, roughly 30 minutes down the corridor.

The Rest Of August, By Address

Festa is one weekend. The centennial is a backdrop. That leaves three other weekends, and here's where residents actually spend them.

Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club, 19433 Renwick Rd. The course sits inside the city and runs public tee times all summer. Worth pairing with a walk at the Will County Forest Preserve's Prairie Bluff Preserve and Theodore Marsh, which are the two names that come up most when longer-tenured residents talk about morning walks.

Bret Hassert Park. The city's own summary lists it as a splash pad, sports fields, and concerts and events venue. In August, splash pad and shade are the pairing you want.

Siegel's Farm. The city groups it under weddings, store, and events. If your late-August weekend needs sweet corn and a produce stand instead of a festival crowd, this is the answer.

White Oak Library District, Crest Hill Branch, 20670 City Center Blvd. This one deserves a table, because August programming is unusually stacked:

A Note On The Back-To-School Timing

The Crest Hill Event Committee published its dates early this year. The Case For Slowing Down This Month

Most Augusts in a Chicagoland suburb read the same: a festival, a fair, a library storytime, a splash pad. This one reads differently because the corridor you already live on is being formally named.
